Just in time for Halloween, Stephen Mollah, a British-Asian macroeconomist claiming to be the elusive Satoshi Nakamoto, made a fresh attempt to validate his identity through a recent press conference. However, despite his efforts, Mollah’s attempt at proof didn’t land as he may have hoped.
🔶Press Conference by the So-Called ‘Satoshi’ Falls Flat
Stephen Mollah has stepped forward, claiming to be none other than Satoshi Nakamoto, the mind behind Bitcoin. In London, he appeared at an event supposedly organized to let the press grill him on this assertion. BBC News contributor Joe Tidy, who attended, commented that the “organiser asked me to pay £500 to attend and appear on stage to ask questions of the billionaire mystery man.”
Tidy continued:
A man called Stephen Mollah has taken to the stage. He claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto – the mystery inventor of Bitcoin. He’s claimed this before and is currently in legal dispute about it. He will now provide evidence, he says.
BBC News contributor Joe Tidy noted that so-called ‘Satoshi’ and his organizer couldn’t manage to get their laptop working, forcing them to continue the event offline, at least temporarily. Tidy went on to say that Mollah described his background as that of an economic and monetary scientist. Mollah also claimed he attempted to reveal himself as Satoshi back in 2016 but was “stopped” by an unnamed individual.
“Journalists (including myself) have interrupted Mr Mollah’s long backstory and asked for him to show the promised evidence,” the BBC reporter stated. “Been here nearly an hour and people are restless and increasingly rude. Mr Mollah’s cheek is twitching rapidly as he stares down a sceptical crowd. Tried to film the demonstration but it doesn’t seem to be forthcoming.”
Tidy added:
Mr. Mollah is showing a series of easy to fake screenshots. I asked if he will move some of the Genesis bitcoins to finally prove he is Satoshi. He said he will in the next few months. I have left the conference.
While Mollah’s ambition to establish his identity as Satoshi Nakamoto is noteworthy, the demonstration left more questions than answers. From charging attendees a hefty fee to presenting questionable “evidence,” the press conference appeared to offer little clarity. Mollah’s vague promise to move bitcoins from the Genesis block at a later date does little to bolster his claim, leaving only a cloud of doubt as the most tangible takeaway from an otherwise ambiguous spectacle.
Despite his claims and efforts to prove himself as Bitcoin’s creator, Mollah’s presentation fell flat, exposing a struggle to present convincing proof amid mounting skepticism. A promise to verify his identity months from now instead of on the spot does little to inspire confidence. If Mollah truly held the credentials he claims, one might expect a more substantial showcase—yet, attendees were left with only a boring sideshow and lingering doubts.#BinanceBlockchainWeek
