According to Deep Tide TechFlow news on October 31, the Ethereum Layer 2 network Base officially announced the activation of the Fault Proofs mechanism on the mainnet. This mechanism allows any participant to make claims about the on-chain state and verifies them, while introducing a permissionless challenge mechanism, making network security no longer dependent on centralized entities.
It is reported that the Base Fault Proof system has two key features: first, permissionless proposals, where any participant can make claims about the on-chain state; second, permissionless challenges, where if fraudulent proposals occur, anyone can challenge them within 3.5 days by running open-source challenger software, and successful challengers will receive the deposit of the invalid proposal as a reward.
The Base team stated that this mechanism is an important component of the first phase in the decentralized framework proposed by Vitalik for Layer 2, and the establishment of the decentralized security committee is expected to be completed in the coming months, ultimately achieving the goal of full decentralization.
