On October 30, Chainlink announced that the platform will undergo a major upgrade, reorganizing the core functions of the oracle network into a modular developer platform, allowing developers to combine them into workflows in any way and run them through the new Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE), which is a system based on DON functions, DON-to-DON communications, function orchestration, and code execution. The workflow runs using an appropriate consensus model. The Chainlink Platform will be launched in phases to ensure that existing users of Chainlink services are not affected throughout the transition. The initial phase involves transitioning Chainlink services such as CCIP to the upgraded platform architecture.
