After the popularity of StepN, Web3 applications related to health and fitness have emerged in an endless stream. However, few projects can surpass the success of StepN because most applications lack innovation.

In this context, Moonwalk recently announced that it had received $3.4 million in seed round financing led by Hack VC, with other investors including Binance Labs, Reciprocal Ventures, Bonk and Solana co-founder Raj Gokal. Does it have its own unique features and will it set off a movement wave like StepN?

To this end, Odaily Planet Daily will explain the basic gameplay of Moonwalk and expectations for future coin issuance.

Exercise and fitness require self-discipline. If you have poor self-discipline, use "real money" to restrain yourself.

Moonwalk is a fitness app on the Solana chain that combines a token reward and penalty mechanism to help users achieve their daily step goals. By creating a private or public game, users can set daily step goals and stake cryptocurrencies such as USDC, SOL, or BONK to ensure that users have the ability to constrain token economics while achieving their goals.

Moonwalk specific gameplay:

  1. Users need to complete account registration as required. They can choose to complete the registration through Google or wallet. It is worth noting that registering through Google will help you create a Tiplink wallet. The author recommends creating an account through MetaMask, OKX wallet and Phantom to avoid cumbersome transfers later.

  2. Since Moonwalk currently uses invitation codes for access, you only need to complete the corresponding registration. We provide an invitation code: a4efjfko.

  3. Users of different types of mobile phones need to download exclusive apps from the app store first, including Moonboots (a dedicated iOS app), Google Fit or FitBit. The author believes that Moonboots data collection is more convenient, while Google Fit requires manual synchronization every day, and the project party needs to connect with Google's account information.

  4. After completing all the above basic operations, the user selects a competition pool to enter. Different competition pools have different entry thresholds. The creator is free to choose the corresponding tokens, set the number of steps per day, and the duration of the competition. However, it is worth noting that participation in the competition pool needs to be within its limited time range, and you must choose your own time zone every day. Do not enter midway, otherwise the first day may be counted as unfinished, and the corresponding pledged tokens will be deducted.

  5. After users choose to participate in a single game, they can see a dashboard of all participants to see the number of people who have not completed the day's challenge and calculate the rewards.

Simply put, Moonwalk is very similar to the popular fitness groups or smoking cessation groups. When participants fail to complete the previously set requirements, they need to accept penalties. In Moonwalk, the penalty is the tokens previously bet, which are evenly divided according to the duration of the game. If a user deposits 10 SOL and the game lasts for 5 days, if the user fails to complete the task on one day, only 2 SOL will be deducted. The rest will still be returned.

In addition, in Moonwalk, users can participate in private or public games. Private games are suitable for interacting with friends in a closed environment, while public games allow users to join a larger community and increase social interaction. Games can also be supported by sponsors to add additional rewards and motivate participants to achieve their fitness goals more actively.

In essence, Moonwalk is not a GameFi, but a paid sports planning application, where users constrain themselves to achieve their goals by investing "real money". If the participants of a single game complete the task, no one will profit, excluding the support of sponsors, but the sports purpose of the project will be achieved to a certain extent.

Expectations for future coin issuance

From the above content, Moonwalk is very monotonous, with only the number of steps as the measurement indicator, and the competition does not have many additional rewards, which is not attractive enough. If Moonwalk is only used as an application to constrain oneself in exercise, the future development space is not "sexy".

However, in July this year, Moonwalk launched a leaderboard mode, which, combined with the XP (experience point) system, provides users with a potentially motivating fitness experience. By participating in activities, achieving step goals, and recommending friends, users can earn experience points and improve their ranking on the leaderboard, thereby unlocking future rewards. The author speculates that the future rewards here should be token incentives.

Moonwalk's Ascent system features two main leaderboards, allowing users to clearly see their achievements and rankings:

  • XP Leaderboard: This leaderboard tracks the total XP a user has earned from various activities, showing the user's overall performance in the Moonwalk Fitness community.

  • Competitive XP Leaderboards: Focus on a user's performance and success in a specific game, reflecting a user's ranking in competitive matches. This type of leaderboard encourages users to perform better in the game and thus improve their ranking.

Strategies for increasing XP

To climb the leaderboards, users need to develop an effective strategy. Here are a few ways to increase XP:

  • Keep hitting your step goals: Make sure you hit your daily step goal in every game, as this is the basis for earning XP.

  • Play in multiple games: By playing in multiple games at the same time, users can significantly increase their chances of earning XP. The more matches you play, the more XP you earn.

  • Create and host games: After participating in at least three tournaments, you can create your own games. Attracting more participants will earn users more XP.

  • Recommend Active Users: Recommend Moonwalk to friends who have the potential to actively participate in the game.

Overall, although Moonwalk’s current gameplay is relatively simple, it is still in its early stages; at the same time, the threshold for user participation is low, and as long as the daily goals are completed according to the rules, there is basically no loss in participation. In addition, Moonwalk provides users with potential incentives by introducing rankings and XP systems, attracting users to participate in the project for the purpose of issuing coins in the future.
