PANews reported on October 22, according to Decrypt, that AMLBot disclosed a 'close-range intrusion' case. A former CEO of a cryptocurrency project was robbed of $450,000 after connecting to a 'close friend's' WiFi. The victim, Tom (a pseudonym), had previously sold company shares for $500,000 and moved to Asia. After meeting a 'close friend' locally, Tom's phone was damaged by rain. After repairing and re-entering his mnemonic phrase, he discovered that his funds had been stolen.

AMLBot's investigation found that funds were transferred to a Binance account. Further investigation revealed that Tom's 'close friend' hacked into his device via a WiFi network. AMLBot reported that there have been 7 similar cases recorded in the last three months, with amounts ranging from 13 bitcoins to $300,000. Currently, Binance has frozen the related accounts. Tom has recovered $380,000, and the remaining $70,000 will be repaid in installments. AMLBot reminds users not to access cryptocurrency websites or wallets on public WiFi networks and recommends enabling transaction notifications.
