Who is Len Sassaman?
Leonard Sassaman was an influential American technologist and a passionate advocate for information privacy. He was known for maintaining the Mixmaster anonymous remailer code and running the randseed remailer.
After graduating from The Hill School in 1998, Sassaman, who had battled depression from a young age, threw himself into the fight for privacy protection online. At just 18, he was contributing to the Internet Engineering Task Force, helping to develop the TCP/IP protocol — the foundation of the internet.
In 1999, Sassaman moved to the Bay Area and became deeply involved in the cypherpunk movement. He even shared a home with Bram Cohen, the creator of BitTorrent. In 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto published the Bitcoin whitepaper, forever changing the world of finance. Creating Bitcoin required a deep knowledge of cryptography and decentralized systems — skills Sassaman had in abundance.
Bitcoin launched in 2009, sparking a quiet revolution against government surveillance.
