During a community discussion on October 3, Vitalik Buterin expressed his support for the idea of reducing the minimum amount of Ether required to participate in independent staking, which is currently set at 32 ETH. According to Buterin, this is a major barrier for many individual investors, limiting their ability to participate in the staking process and affecting the decentralization of the network.
At the previous Ethereum Singapore 2024 event, Buterin emphasized the importance of independent stakers to the security and decentralization of Ethereum. He explained that even with only a small number of independent stakers, they can still form an important layer of protection against potential attacks such as 51% attacks.
Reducing the amount of ETH required for staking will increase accessibility for individual investors and at the same time strengthen the security of the Ethereum network in the long term, promoting sustainable and decentralized development.
