Lisk DAO to Complete Community Vote on October 1 to Decide Whether to Keep or Destroy 100 Million LSK

Blockchain application platform Lisk said in an official blog that it will launch a community vote on the newly launched Lisk DAO on September 24 to decide whether to retain or destroy 100 million LSK tokens, which accounts for 25% of the total supply of 400 million. The vote will last for 7 days until October 1, and the voting process will use Tally. This decision was made after Lisk recently migrated from Layer 1 to Layer 2 blockchain as part of the Optimism Superchain and the launch of the new Lisk DAO.

If the community chooses to allocate to the DAO Fund, these 100 million LSK tokens will belong to the fund from 2027 to 2033, with 15 million LSK tokens distributed annually for six years and 10 million LSK tokens distributed in the seventh year. This fund will greatly help the community to promote its own plans, support growth activities and fund innovative projects in the next decade. If the community chooses to burn, 100 million LSK tokens will be permanently removed from the total supply. This move will reduce the total supply of LSK tokens by 25% to 300 million tokens, but it will greatly weaken the power of the DAO.

Abu Dhabi proposes a regulatory framework for fiat-referenced tokens and will close public consultation on October 3

According to Cointelegraph, the Abu Dhabi Financial Regulator plans to regulate the Fiat Reference Token (FRT), a stablecoin, in response to calls from stakeholders seeking to issue the token. The regulator has invited public feedback on the proposed regulatory framework. The Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) of the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) said that FRT issuers will be subject to operational restrictions and requirements. FSRA recommends that the market value of reserve assets be at least equal to the par value of all FRTs in circulation at the end of each business day. FRTs should also be valued at daily market prices. The regulator also recommends that institutions that issue two or more FRTs should operate and maintain independent reserve asset pools for each FRT and manage each reserve asset pool separately.

The FSRA has set a deadline of October 3, 2024 for comments on the proposal. Upon receipt of comments, the FSRA will consider whether the proposed regulatory framework for FRTs needs to be amended. The ADGM Board and the FSRA will then proceed to develop the regulatory framework in its final form. After considering definitions in other jurisdictions, the Abu Dhabi Financial Services Regulatory Authority said it proposes to define FRT as a digital asset whose transfer and storage is achieved electronically through the use of distributed ledger technology. The value of FRTs should be referenced to a fixed amount of a single legal currency and allow holders to redeem FRTs from the issuer in exchange for an equal amount of legal currency when required. In addition to implementing a regulatory framework to govern the issuance of FRTs, the Financial Services Regulatory Authority is also reviewing a range of existing regulated activities to consider any relevant amendments to the possible use of FRTs for such regulated activities. The proposal will be set out in a separate consultation document, and these proposed amendments will consider the acceptance of tokens for services or investments, and the circumstances in which the holding or transfer of tokens can be used to provide payment services.
