Crypto Investors Won’t Get EU Regulatory Protection Until 2024: ESMA

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has warned crypto investors in Europe that they are not yet covered by the European Union’s crypto-asset market rules, which will take time to come into effect.  Under these regulations, known as the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) Regulation, crypto investor protections will not come into effect until at least December 2024, leaving investors at risk of losses.  Even after December 2024, there is no guarantee that investors will be fully protected by MiCA until 2026, although the regulations will apply to crypto-asset service providers in 2024.
