EigenLayer sparked controversy as its employees received a large number of tokens in the ecological project airdrop
According to Coindesk, the staking protocol EigenLayer has sparked controversy due to its employees receiving a large amount of tokens from airdrops in the ecosystem projects. The total value of these tokens reached nearly $5 million at their peak. Eigen Labs had previously provided a list of employee wallet addresses to projects preparing to issue tokens, including Ether.Fi, Renzo, and AltLayer. One project team stated that they sent a portion of the new cryptocurrency to each Eigen Labs employee as a "thank you", with each employee's allocation ultimately valued at $80,000. Another team said that Eigen Labs sent them a list of employee wallet addresses and felt compelled to pay the tokens, fearing it could jeopardize their relationship with Eigen Labs, which is crucial to their business. To address these issues, Eigen Labs and the Eigen Foundation quietly banned employees from accepting such token airdrops in May this year, acknowledging that this practice could lead to conflicts of interest or at least give that impression, and implemented stricter internal policies.
