Google (GOOG.O) CEO Pichai told employees last week that 2025 is "a big risk" as the company faces growing competition, regulatory barriers and the rapid development of artificial intelligence, according to Golden Finance. Pichai said that "building large new businesses" is a top priority, including the Gemini app. Executives said they believe Gemini will be Google's next app to reach 500 million users. The company currently has 15 apps that have reached this milestone.
"Gemini applications have gained momentum, especially in the past few months," Pichai said. "But we still have some work to do in 2025 to close the gap and establish a leading position in this field." He later added: "Next year, promoting Gemini on the consumer side will be our top priority." In addition, Pichai showed a large language model chart in which Gemini 1.5 was ahead of OpenAI's GPT and other competitors.
“I expect there will be some back and forth in 2025. I think we’ll be at the state of the art,” Pichai said. “Historically, you don’t always have to be first, but you have to execute really well and be the best in class. I think that’s what 2025 is about.”
