According to Cointelegraph, the Russian government has approved a list of regions where cryptocurrency mining will be banned from 2025. Starting January 1, 2025, 10 regions will completely ban mining, and the ban will last until March 15, 2031.
These include Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia, Chechnya, Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, as well as the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions.
In addition, Russia will impose seasonal mining restrictions in the Irkutsk, Buryatia and Trans-Baikal regions during the winter to prevent energy shortages. These restrictions will be in place from January 1 to March 15, 2025, and will be extended to November 15 to March 15 in future years.
Russia’s latest mining restrictions are milder than an initial proposal that would have imposed a blanket ban in 13 regions, including Irkutsk.
