According to ChainCatcher, South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol announced martial law and lifted it six hours later. South Korea's largest opposition party, the Democratic Party of Korea, demanded that Yoon Seok-yeol step down immediately, otherwise it would proceed with impeachment proceedings.

The Democratic Party issued a resolution after an emergency meeting of the National Assembly, stating that Yoon Seok-yeol's martial law order violated the Constitution and failed to comply with necessary conditions, which was a serious unconstitutional act and sufficient reason for impeachment.
