According to ChainCatcher, after months of investigation into Block's compliance by the U.S. federal government, Cash App has decided to terminate the Bitcoin transfer feature via user tags.
Cash App announced on its help page that starting December 20, 2024, it will no longer support sending and receiving Bitcoin between $cashtags. Users can still transfer using the Lightning Network or the Bitcoin blockchain.
The Wayback Machine check for October shows no such notification. This change only affects Bitcoin transfers and does not impact other services such as sending stocks or cash via cashtags.
