According to Cointelegraph, the parliament of the Swiss canton of Bern has passed a motion to commission a report on Bitcoin mining. Although the cantonal government opposes the report and Bitcoin mining, supporters call it a victory.
The report, presented by the Bitcoin Parliamentary Group and voted 85-46, will examine ways to capture excess energy within the state, cooperation with Swiss bitcoin miners, and the potential of bitcoin mining for grid stability.
According to Bitcoin Trainer, the group referred to the model of Texas in the United States and believed that by encouraging Bitcoin mining, Bern can attract mining companies and jobs, promote renewable energy and stabilize the power grid.
Despite the state government’s recommendation against the proposal, Councilman Samuel Kullmann said the majority support for the proposal, despite the debate being influenced by classic FUD arguments, reflects the changing narrative of Bitcoin.
