According to CoinDesk, Sam Altman's Worldcoin project has been renamed to World, and it has launched a faster and simpler Orb 2.0 scanner for scanning the irises of billions of people. The long-term goal of the project is to create a system for anonymously verifying human identity online.

At a media event, World employees showcased the plans for Orb 2.0. The new version will be built faster, use fewer components and better chips, and run open-source code. Chief Designer Rich Heley stated that 1,000 more Orbs are needed than currently, and they need to be deployed in more locations.

World will open 'premium verification experience' storefronts in Buenos Aires and Mexico City, and plans to deploy Orbs in everyday locations such as coffee shops. Users can also summon Orbs to their homes through the app.

Additionally, the project plans to accelerate the adoption of the World ID system by submitting government identification documents. Chief Information Security Officer Adiran Ludwig mentioned that this method has extra checks to prevent deepfakes.

The new product World ID Deep Faces will help internet users confirm that the individuals they are communicating with online are not deepfakes. The WLD token dropped about 5% after the launch event.
