Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, known for their substantial investments in cryptocurrency, have become co-owners of Real Bedford Football Club (RBFC), in alignment with Bitcoin podcaster Peter McCormack's ambitious plans to elevate the club to the English Premier League. The twins have injected $4.5 million worth of Bitcoin into the club through their investment firm, Winklevoss Capital, marking a significant move to support the club's future aspirations.

This financial backing is set to fund the establishment of a Bitcoin treasury for the club. According to McCormack, who spoke to Cointelegraph, this strategy is intended to protect the club from long-term fiat currency debasement. "The investment helps with the infrastructure we need to grow this with our ambitions," McCormack noted. Part of the funds will also go towards developing a new training center and enhancing support for youth and girls' football programs.

McCormack, who acquired RBFC in 2021, aims to see the club, which is based in his hometown of Bedford, ascend through the ranks to compete with major Premier League teams like Manchester United and Chelsea. RBFC is pioneering in its acceptance of Bitcoin for game day tickets, merchandise, sponsorships, and even beverages. "We are a long way from the Premier League, but as exciting as that is our ambition, I work on one league at a time," McCormack stated.

Echoing McCormack's vision, Cameron Winklevoss expressed the broader intent behind their investment, "We’re not just investing in a football club, we’re investing in a dream to bring Premier League football to Bedford." Tyler Winklevoss added, “We share in Peter’s deep conviction in Bitcoin and its ability to supercharge RBFC’s quest to make it into the Premier League.”

This investment comes on the heels of another significant contribution by the Winklevoss twins, who recently donated $4.9 million to the crypto-focused Fairshake super political action committee (PAC) to support cryptocurrency-friendly candidates in upcoming U.S. elections, underscoring their continued commitment to promoting cryptocurrency's role in various sectors.
