According to Odaily, EigenDA has announced that rollups on the mainnet can now use EigenDA for free. The company invites all rollups on the Ethereum mainnet to publish blobs to EigenDA. To prevent witch/DDoS attacks on the free layer, the team has deployed a whitelist authenticated by IP or ETH address ECDSA. The free, unlicensed layer currently allows six blobs per 128KB batch, totaling 768KB every 10 minutes. However, partners can collaborate with EigenDA to seek an increase in this metric.

In comparison, the throughput of EigenDA's free layer exceeds that of the most commonly used rollups on Ethereum, such as Base, which publishes less than one blob every 10 minutes. EigenDA is working towards implementing unlicensed payments for blob throughput on its platform, which is expected to be launched later this year. When this system is launched, EigenDA will continue to provide reserved bandwidth at a fixed rate for high-throughput use cases.

EigenDA is currently generating a synthetic load of 0.6 MB/s and has run load tests on the mainnet with peak throughput of up to 10 MB/s. In contrast, Ethereum's 4844 blob throughput is 0.032 MB/s, and Celestia's mainnet is 1/6 MB/s.
