According to Odaily, cryptocurrency fraudsters recently hijacked the Microsoft India X official account, which boasts over 211,000 followers. The scammers impersonated Roaring Kitty, also known as meme stock trader Keith Gill. The Microsoft India X account is marked with a gold V, indicating it has been officially verified, which added credibility to the fraudulent posts.

The hijacked account was used to reply to tweets, directing followers and other users to a malicious website falsely claiming to offer a pre-sale of Gamestop (GME) cryptocurrency. This phishing website aims to steal assets from anyone who connects a cryptocurrency wallet and authorizes transactions.

In addition, many bot accounts retweeted the hijacked posts, expanding their reach and attracting more victims. The incident underscores the increasing sophistication of online scams and the need for users to exercise caution when interacting with online accounts, even those that appear to be verified.
