According to U.Today, Ethereum blockchain founder, Vitalik Buterin, has expressed his condolences on the passing of the legendary meme Shiba Inu dog, Kabosu. Buterin's tribute was seen as a sign of respect and support for the Dogecoin community. He tweeted 'Rest in peace Kabochan' in response to a tweet from Kabosu's owner, Atsuko Sato, announcing the dog's death at the age of 19.

Kabosu gained fame in 2010 when her photos went viral on the internet. In 2013, she inspired the creation of the first meme cryptocurrency, Dogecoin (DOGE), by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer. Kabosu was then adopted as the DOGE mascot, increasing her popularity among the rapidly growing Dogecoin community.

As news of Kabosu's death spread, several prominent figures in the crypto community, including Elon Musk and DOGE founder Markus, paid their respects. Musk tweeted that Kabosu had 'ascended to heaven,' while Markus shared a meme of Kabosu conversing with Death, who told the dog, 'I’m told you were the best.'

This is not the first time Buterin has shown his support for the Dogecoin community. He has previously made significant donations to the Dogecoin Foundation and became a member of the organization in 2021. As a member, Buterin proposed several improvements for DOGE, including a transition from the proof-of-work algorithm to the proof-of-stake one.
