According to Foresight News, Horizen has announced the completion of the mandatory software upgrade to ZEN 4.1.0, which removes the mainchain shielded pool. Horizen advises exchanges, mining pools, node operators, and full-node wallet users to upgrade to ZEN 4.1.0 immediately if they experience any service interruptions.

Previously, the Horizen community approved ZenIP 42204 in June, which aimed to remove the Horizen mainchain shielded pool. Following this removal, all privacy features will be deleted from the Horizen mainchain at the consensus level, and ZEN will no longer be a privacy coin. Horizen stated that the purpose of this removal is to ensure that privacy technology is used in a correct and sustainable manner, in order to mitigate regulatory threats. The company also acknowledged that the current regulatory environment poses challenges to the accessibility and adoption of privacy-focused cryptocurrencies.
