Non-farm payrolls in the United States averaged 125.61 Thousand from 1939 until 2024, reaching an all-time high of 4615 Thousand in June of 2020 and a record low of -20477 Thousand in April of 2020.

The strength of the jobs data could therefore influence whether the Fed cuts rates again at its remaining meetings of the year, in November and December, and by how much.

Market pricing indicates a roughly 67% probability of a quarter-percentage-point cut, the smaller odds on another half-percentage-point reduction, according to CME’s FedWatch tool.
