September saw an uptick in vintage coin activity, with 4,066.81 BTC spent across 70 transactions, according to btcparser.com metrics. Leading the pack were wallets from 2016, which recorded 12 transactions, moving a total of 1,883.46 BTC. The largest of these was a significant transfer of 1,350.27 BTC on Sept. 4. In second place, addresses created in 2013 saw a total of 722.87 BTC spent.

For 2013 wallets, there were 16 separate transactions, with the biggest being a 146.43 BTC move on Sept. 9. Not far behind, 2017 wallets spent 512.9 BTC through 17 different transactions in September. In fourth place were addresses from 2014, which moved 312.21 BTC in nine transactions.

Finally, the mysterious 2009 addresses made their move, transferring 250 BTC. This marked the first such spending since April 7-8, 2022, when another entity transferred the same amount. The major difference in 2022? No 2010 UTXOs were spent back in April 2022, but last month, there was one. Dormant bitcoin wallets from 2015 claimed the sixth spot, with 236.38 BTC spent over seven transactions.

There was also a single 2010 transfer for 50 BTC, as well as one from 2011 for the same amount. Addresses from 2012 made two appearances last month, moving a total of 48.99 BTC. The 4,066.81 BTC spent from long-inactive wallets in September surpassed August’s total of 2,291.20 BTC but fell short of the 6,536.17 BTC spent in July and the 4,681.438 BTC moved in June.
