Blockchain security service ScamSniffer has reported that $32 million worth of tokens disappeared after a crypto whale approved a malicious transaction. The loss occurred through the decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol Spark, involving wrapped Ether (spWETH) tokens. A total of 12,083 spWETH tokens were withdrawn from the wallet, valued at approximately $32.4 million.
🔒 Over 200,000 Victims Scammed!
According to blockchain intelligence firm Arkham, this malicious transaction was carried out by a fraud service called Inferno Drainer. Inferno Drainer targets users by offering fake usage proposals for popular DeFi applications to take control of their funds. Data from Dune Analytics shows that this system has stolen over $215 million from more than 200,000 victims.
⚠️ 20% Commission on the Scam
It has been reported that Inferno operators receive a 20% commission from the stolen tokens. The service, which was shut down by developers in November 2023, resumed operations in May of this year. Currently, 28 different blockchains and DeFi applications are being targeted by this active scam.
🔍 Identity Still Unconfirmed
According to crypto detective ZachXBT, the identity of the whale involved in this incident has yet to be confirmed. However, ZachXBT suggested that the whale could be someone named CZSamSun (not to be confused with Paradigm researcher @samczsun). ZachXBT’s posts about the incident have sparked significant curiosity within the crypto community.
A blockchain message sent from the victim's wallet offered the scammer a deal, proposing 20% of the funds in return, but no response has been received so far.
