According to PANews, a hearing held on August 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York resulted in a judge ordering the Peraire-Bueno brothers to stand trial on October 14, 2025. The brothers face charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. U.S. Department of Justice officials allege that the brothers exploited a vulnerability in MEV bots to steal $25 million in cryptocurrency. The Peraire-Bueno brothers were arrested in May and have since been released on $250,000 bail each, with certain travel restrictions imposed on them. According to U.S. authorities, the brothers have refused to return the stolen funds and have used shell companies and foreign cryptocurrency exchanges to hide the assets, transferring them to multiple wallets. If convicted, they could face up to 20 years in prison for each charge.
