• Tornado Cash developer Alexei Pertsev's legal battle has reached a critical stage and he is looking for new ways to continue his defense.

Gn Pertsev, who has been in custody for two years, faces serious challenges in his fight against well-funded government prosecutors. His support team has announced that his funds have been exhausted, emphasizing that he urgently needs between $750,000 and $1 million to cover ongoing legal costs.

JusticeDAO, a group set up to support their legal fight, raised over 654 #MarketDownturn (about ÂŁ2.3 million) through the Juicebox fundraising campaign. A further 70 ETH has been raised and detailed records show that $1.39 million was spent on legal fees between December 2023 and May 2024.

Pertsev is still in custody, having been denied bail, and his lawyers are preparing to appeal the sentence handed down by the Court of Appeal in Hertogenbosch in May for laundering $1.2 billion through Tornado Cash over concerns about flight risk. He followed a denial of bail in November 2023. Despite Pertsev's claim that he should not be held responsible for the illegal use of Tornado Cache, the court ruled that he could have taken additional measures to prevent the misuse of the protocol.
