Toncoin gas fees Read CoinChapter.com on Google News

LUCKNOW (CoinChapter.com) – The TON blockchain, originally developed by messaging app Telegram, has taken a major step towards making cryptocurrency transactions easier for everyday users. On July 26, the TON Core team announced a new feature that allows people to make transactions without needing to own the blockchain’s native currency, Toncoin.

This breakthrough comes through a partnership with Tonkeeper, a popular wallet app for the TON blockchain. Together, they’ve created a new type of digital wallet called the W5 smart wallet.

What makes this wallet special?

The W5 smart wallet introduces several key features. Most notably, it enables gasless transactions, meaning users can now pay transaction fees using USDT (a widely used cryptocurrency) or Notcoin (a new token on TON) instead of coin. This removes a common hurdle for newcomers to cryptocurrency.

The wallet can also handle up to 255 transactions simultaneously, which could be useful for tasks like sending many NFTs at once or managing several subscription payments. Additionally, it includes enhanced security features such as two-factor authentication and the ability to freeze an account if unauthorized access is suspected.

Oleg Andreev, the CEO of Tonkeeper, explained why this matters:

Our collaboration with TON Core ensures that users experience unparalleled security, efficiency and ease of use. This simplicity holds the key to bringing blockchain technology to a mainstream audience and putting crypto in every pocket.

This update comes as TON is experiencing rapid growth. The blockchain reports having 5.8 million active wallets each month. In 2024, the number of daily users skyrocketed, reaching over 350k as of July 24th. This increase is largely due to popular games within the Telegram app that use TON for in-game transactions.

Telegram, with its 950 million users, provides a massive potential audience for TON. The blockchain team hopes that by making transactions simpler, more of these users will start engaging with cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

What’s Next Plan?

Currently, the new wallet features are only available through Tonkeeper. However, the TON team says other wallet apps like TON Space and MyTonWallet will add support in the coming months.

Anatoliy Makosov, a lead developer at TON, summed up the team’s vision:

The new W5 Smart Wallet is all about helping make TON transactions even more social, helping to bring about mass adoption.
