It functions as a unified data layer, supporting decentralized finance (DeFi), gaming, prediction markets, and large language models (LLMs). By providing reliable external data, Band enables smart contracts and AI-driven applications to operate with accurate, verifiable inputs.

In 2025, the project rebranded from Band Protocol to Band, introducing a new vision as “The Unified Data Layer for AI & Web3.” This rebrand brought two major products: Band v3, which expanded data coverage, reduced latency, and added advanced developer tools, and Membit, a solution designed to deliver real-time, verifiable context to large language models (LLMs). The rebrand positioned Band as a bridge between blockchain infrastructure and artificial intelligence.

Band was originally launched in 2019 on the Ethereum blockchain to address a core Web3 challenge: connecting blockchains with real-world data.
