  • Since day one, Binance has placed a strong focus on its users and community. Since its founding in 2018, our charitable arm, Binance Charity, has played an important role in providing direct assistance to those affected by natural disasters and supporting other humanitarian missions.

  • In 2023, Binance continued to provide assistance to victims of disasters and disasters across the globe, from New Zealand and Italy to Brazil and Turkey.

  • Education initiatives and addressing digital exclusion also remained high on Binance's agenda, and partnership programs were implemented in Brazil and Georgia to strengthen communities and develop human capital.

For Binance, users always come first. From responding to user feedback when developing new products and features, to devoting enormous effort and resources to protecting people and their assets from a wide range of threats, we're always looking for ways to show we care. We are also going beyond the online world, leveraging the power of digital assets to provide quick and effective financial assistance to those in need, such as people and communities affected by natural disasters and other crises. Whenever we feel we can lend a helping hand to our users who are having difficulties, we do so as quickly as possible. Here's a sneak peek at what Binance Charity, our charitable and humanitarian arm, is doing on this front in 2023.

Disaster Support

The number and severity of natural disasters have been increasing around the world in recent times, and 2023 is no exception, with floods, earthquakes, droughts and deadly hurricanes affecting a wide range of countries and regions. Such crises have catastrophic consequences for people, and it is usually the already vulnerable populations that are hit the hardest.

Such disasters not only result in loss of life and property, but also leave tens and hundreds of thousands of victims in the affected areas in dire need of basic necessities such as water, shelter, food and medicine. People and communities affected by such large-scale disasters need immediate assistance and resources to move on with their lives.

In response to the growing severity and scale of natural disasters in 2023, Binance Charity has stepped up its efforts to provide emergency relief and recovery to regions affected by these crises. To achieve this, we partnered with trusted local and international NGOs to donate cryptocurrency to purchase emergency supplies and distribute cryptocurrency funds to our users directly in the affected areas.

Help for flood victims: from New Zealand to Libya

In January 2023, devastating floods hit the city of Auckland, New Zealand. To support families affected by the disaster, Binance Charity donated $160,000 to local charity BBM, which assisted in the recovery and reconstruction of homes, as well as providing essential supplies and household supplies to those affected. technique. These measures covered more than 1,600 flood victims.

Another major series of floods occurred in May 2023 in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna. The disaster affected thousands of people and caused significant damage to the densely populated area. To help those affected, Binance Charity donated $100,000 to the Italian Red Cross (Croce Rossa Italiana), which played a major role in the rescue and evacuation efforts on the ground. These funds were used to meet immediate needs such as medical care and emergency supplies for approximately 1,000 victims.

In another partnership in Italy, last year we donated over $600,000 to the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS hospital. The funds will be used to establish a clinical nutrition center and fund four scholarships.

In September, catastrophic flooding hit eastern Libya, killing thousands and displacing tens of thousands. To provide targeted relief to the disaster-stricken area, we have airdropped up to $100 worth of BNB to all Binance users identified through the Proof of Address (POA) system. About $150,000 was distributed to 12,362 users.

Earthquakes and hurricanes

February 2023 saw one of the deadliest natural disasters in the modern history of both Turkey and Syria: a series of high-magnitude earthquakes that caused widespread destruction over an area of about 350,000 square kilometers and killed tens of thousands of people. In Turkey alone, 14 million people were affected by the disaster.

Given the enormous scale of the disaster, Binance decided to act on several fronts. To provide immediate relief to those affected, we have given away $100 in crypto as part of an airdrop to all Binance users living in the hardest hit areas. As a result, approximately 31,000 users received $3 million. We have also launched an earthquake emergency appeal to raise crypto funds for people in Syria and Turkey. Proceeds went to the government-approved non-profit organization Kizilay (Turkish Red Crescent) and the humanitarian NGO Mercy Corps in Syria. The money thus collected was divided equally between the two organizations, and 3,300 people received a total of $330,000.

Finally, for long-term recovery, Binance donated $100,000 in cryptocurrency to Ahbap, a verified Turkish non-profit organization, in July 2023 to help build earthquake-proof steel homes for affected families.

In September, Morocco's Marrakech-Safi region was hit by another strong earthquake, causing widespread damage and loss of life. Using address identification, Binance identified approximately 84,000 users in the affected area and announced a plan to distribute up to $3 million in cryptocurrency to them after the disaster.

Community support

In addition to supporting victims of natural disasters, Binance Charity is constantly looking for ways to make a positive, lasting impact on individuals and communities around the world. We believe one of the best ways to address this challenge is to improve access to technology and education.

One example is Binance's implementation of a number of educational and public initiatives in the field of blockchain after signing a memorandum of understanding with the Georgian Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA). Through Binance Academy and Binance Charity, we have funded blockchain education scholarships and hosted local BNB Chain events and hackathons in Georgia, working to strengthen the country's blockchain community. In 2023, we spent $100,000 on the program, which will directly benefit 180 people.

Some of our initiatives address the broader issue of digital exclusion. In 2023, Binance Charity donated $20,000 to Instituto Ruas, a Brazilian organization that trains homeless and vulnerable people in the city of Sao Paulo to promote personal development and teach them how to make money. The donation was aimed at creating a digital center that provides people with free access to the Internet, as well as providing computer literacy classes for young people.
