According to "CoinDesk", Matter Labs, the main development company of Ethereum's second-layer network ZKsync, launched a new roadmap called "ZKsync 3.0", aiming to make the ecosystem more interconnected, which covers the new "Elastic Chain" architecture . Elastic Chain is composed of multiple chains in the ZKsync ecosystem, allowing multi-chain users to feel like they are using a single chain, similar to AggLayer launched by its competitor Polygon.

Matter Labs wrote in an article shared with CoinDesk that ZKsync 3.0 centers on the network’s v24 upgrade released on June 7, which will transform ZKsync from a single ZK Chain to an Elastic Chain.

Matter Labs released the modular open source framework ZK Stack last year, allowing developers to build their own blockchains on ZKsync technology. Essentially, these custom chains will be connected to each other through the Elastic Chain. Matter Labs wrote:

"Elastic Chain is an infinitely scalable network of ZK chains (rollups, validiums, and volitions) that uses mathematics to ensure its security and achieves seamless interoperability under a unified and intuitive user experience."

According to Matter Labs, Elastic Chain will be composed of three core components. The first component consists of "Native Token Vault" and "Shared Router", the latter being the core of the network. "These components are implemented as a series of smart contracts on Ethereum and are responsible for managing network state and handling chain registration," the team wrote.

The second component is their ZK Gateway, a middleware that connects the Ethereum blockchain and ZKsync’s ZK chain, enabling interoperability between different chains in the ZKsync ecosystem. Matter Labs wrote:

“Together, these core components ensure that ZK chains can efficiently interact and transact with each other, while inheriting the security of Ethereum and forming a network that can scale horizontally without compromising the core properties that make public blockchains so powerful. "
