Marathon Digital has opened a 2 MW data center in the Satakunta region, the thermal energy needed to heat water for the homes of approximately eleven thousand local residents. Company representatives said they consider the project important for expanding the use of mining for the needs of household consumers.

In Europe, the share of energy consumption by data centers is approximately 3%, compared to the global average of 1.5%, which opens up the possibility of organizing centralized heating systems using mining in other countries.

“We don’t just make digital assets, we heat homes, and we believe that this kind of innovation can help advance the digital asset computing industry, strengthening our leadership position,” Marathon Digital said.

Earlier, analysts from the research division of mining equipment trading company Blockware reported that due to the heat in the US, the difficulty of Bitcoin mining and the network hashrate will inevitably decrease.
