Golden Finance reported that Coinbase objected to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) $2.6 billion budget request for fiscal year 2025. Coinbase representatives said in a statement that the SEC once again asked for more funds for law enforcement supervision, but its huge budget was not used for real crypto rule-making, which could actually promote regulatory clarity. Of the SEC's multi-billion-dollar budget request, $812.4 million was allocated for law enforcement, up from $675.6 million in 2024. SEC Chairman Gary Gensler said the budget would increase the number of full-time positions in the SEC's enforcement division by 27 to 1,447. The expansion will enable regulators to "investigate misconduct on a larger scale" and bring more complex lawsuits. Coinbase has repeatedly urged the SEC to reduce its enforcement methods and develop workable regulations, including through rule-making petitions and attempts to force responses in court.
