Golden Finance reported that U.S. Congressman Brad Sherman proposed an amendment aimed at strengthening the enforcement of sanctions on Russian digital assets. The amendment allows the Secretary of the Treasury to prohibit crypto transactions related to Russian entities and requires U.S. taxpayers to report offshore crypto transactions exceeding $10,000 to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). The proposal has been submitted to the Rules Committee. The amendment requires the President to submit a report to Congress within 90 days of the enactment of the bill to determine whether any foreign person operating a digital asset trading platform or acting as a facilitator of digital asset transactions has substantially assisted in evading U.S. sanctions against the Russian Federation.
