Details of the Highly Anticipated Airdrop Announced: Here's What You Need to Know

Ethereum Layer-2 project ZKSync announced the details of the airdrop it will organize for the ZK token.

According to the statement made by ZKSync today, 17.5% of ZK, which has a total supply of 21 billion, will be distributed via airdrop.

It starts next week

ZKSync “users” will be able to apply to receive their share of ZK tokens starting next week and continuing through January 3, 2025.

These users consist of people who have made transactions with ZKSync and have met certain criteria. The snapshot required for this was taken by looking at the transactions made in ZKSync Era and ZKSync Lite as of March 24, 2024.

Of the 17.5% token supply allocated for the airdrop, 89% was allocated to “users” and 11% was allocated to “contributors” to the project. Applications for those who contribute to the project will open on June 24. These include the development, promotion, etc. of ZKSync, regardless of transactions on the blockchain. It consists of developers, researchers and companies that contributed to the project.

ZK tokens will be distributed like this

49.1% of the ZK token supply will be distributed through initiatives within the ecosystem. 17.2% of the supply was allocated to ZKSync investors, and 16.1% was allocated to the Matter Labs team, the developer of ZKSync.

ZKSync Association said, “The distribution of more tokens in the airdrop than allocated to the Matter Labs team and investors is not just a symbolic decision. "As ZKSync's governance system opens in the coming weeks, community members will be the ones with the largest supply of liquid tokens to manage governance updates to the protocol," he said.

ZK tokens allocated to investors through Matter Labs will be locked for the first year. He will then be released over a three-year period between June 2025 and June 2028.
