“Stars” of Telegram: payment for digital goods and more

Every month, more than 400 million users interact with bots and mini-applications on Telegram - purchasing goods, playing games, accessing a variety of services, and taking advantage of many other features. Starting today, bots and mini-apps can sell digital goods and services.

Digital goods and services

For many years now, Telegram has been using bots and mini-applications to sell physical goods and accept payments from all over the world. This month we updated the Bot Platform to also support payments for digital goods.

"Stars" Telegram

To enable users to pay for digital goods and services in the Telegram ecosystem, we are launching Telegram Stars. Stars can be purchased through in-app purchases in the Apple and Google stores or using the PremiumBot bot, and then spent on a variety of digital products offered by bots, from e-books and online courses to items in games on the Telegram platform.

You can try paying with stars at @DurgerKingBot - for this occasion it offers a special cake (the bot will immediately return your spent stars).

Integration with app stores

Stars comply with the latest requirements from Apple and Google for the sale of digital goods - and give developers in the Telegram ecosystem and their users unprecedented access to in-app purchases from official stores.

In the near future, developers will be able to display stars received by bots in Toncoin using the Fragment platform.

The rules for the sale of physical goods and services have not changed - they can still be purchased using any of the supported payment systems. Detailed information for developers about changes affecting digital products is available on this page.

With fast and convenient payments for digital goods and services, the bot and mini-app platform will enable new businesses to reach more than 900 million potential customers in the Telegram ecosystem.

More than just shopping with bots

In future updates, Telegram stars will have even more features and capabilities, in addition to purchasing digital goods and services in mini-apps. For example, users will be able to send gifts to content creators - and more.

More than shopping from bots

Additional information about stars can be found in the CEO’s Telegram channel, the updated User Agreement for bot developers and detailed instructions for setting up payments in stars.
