zkSync said in mid-May that the upcoming v24 release was the final planned protocol upgrade needed before handing over network governance to the community, with the remaining missing pieces expected to be in place by the end of June. These messages may hint at the imminent release of zkSync’s highly anticipated native token.

Foreign media "The Block" reported last month, citing people familiar with the matter, that ZkSync is targeting a token airdrop around June 13.

Matter Labs, the developer of zkSync, has recently caused controversy when the cross-chain protocol Polyhedra Network claimed that it wanted to snatch their token code ZK. The company has also been condemned by other industry figures for its trademark registration behavior. Later, Matter Labs announced on Monday that it would abandon all trademark applications for the word "ZK".
