The US Department of Justice stopped the operation of the large 911 S5 botnet, which was behind a series of cyber attacks and episodes of fraud. The creator of the network, 35-year-old citizen of the People's Republic of China and Saint Kitts and Nevis, Yunhe Wang, was arrested.

According to the case, from 2014 to 2022, Wang compromised a million home computers in 200 countries by distributing free VPN services with backdoors. He subsequently united these devices into a single botnet with more than 19 million IP addresses and resold the ability to use it to third-party cybercriminals for cryptocurrencies.

The indictment states that the botnet facilitated a range of crimes, including financial fraud, identity theft and child exploitation.

Wallets associated with Wang contained a total of more than $130 million in various digital assets, according to analysts at Chainalysis.

Law enforcement officers confiscated 23 domains on 70 servers, as well as funds worth $30 million.

OFAC imposed financial sanctions against Wang, his associates, and organizations controlled by him.#StartInvestingInCrypto
