Researchers Recover Access to 2013 Bitcoin Wallet Worth Nearly $3 Million!
Thanks to a flaw in an old version of ๐ค RoboForm and a bit of luck, researchers helped one man recover access to 43.6 BTC, worth about ๐ฐ $3 million. He lost the password to his wallet, created in 2013, after a file got corrupted.
๐ In 2022, he reached out to famed hacker Joe Grand (Kingpin), who teamed up with Bruno from Germany. They ๐จ reverse-engineered the 2013 RoboForm version and found a flaw in its password generation, which used the computer's date and time.
Despite multiple failed attempts, they finally ๐ cracked the password in November 2023. The happy owner of the recovered password sold part of his BTC when the price hit $62,000 and plans to hold the rest until it reaches $100,000. ๐
๐ก Losing the password turned out to be a stroke of luck, as it prevented him from selling earlier at a lower price.
