Researchers Recover Access to 2013 Bitcoin Wallet Worth Nearly $3 Million!

Thanks to a flaw in an old version of ๐Ÿค– RoboForm and a bit of luck, researchers helped one man recover access to 43.6 BTC, worth about ๐Ÿ’ฐ $3 million. He lost the password to his wallet, created in 2013, after a file got corrupted.

๐Ÿ” In 2022, he reached out to famed hacker Joe Grand (Kingpin), who teamed up with Bruno from Germany. They ๐Ÿ”จ reverse-engineered the 2013 RoboForm version and found a flaw in its password generation, which used the computer's date and time.

Despite multiple failed attempts, they finally ๐ŸŽ‰ cracked the password in November 2023. The happy owner of the recovered password sold part of his BTC when the price hit $62,000 and plans to hold the rest until it reaches $100,000. ๐Ÿš€

๐Ÿ’ก Losing the password turned out to be a stroke of luck, as it prevented him from selling earlier at a lower price.
