According to TechFlow, ETH Daily reported that Ethereum core developers plan to launch the Pectra upgrade in the first quarter of 2025. The upgrade includes:

1. 11 EIPs that introduce the EVM Object Format (EOF), providing an optional container for EVM code.

2. Includes the PeerDAS data availability sampling scheme, leveraging Ethereum’s existing peer-to-peer components.

3. Use EIP-7702 proposed by Vitalik to replace the account abstraction EIP-3074, so that externally owned accounts (EOA) can be used as smart contract wallets.

Pectra consists of the Prague upgrade for the execution layer and the Electra upgrade for the consensus layer. The final scope of the upgrade is still under discussion and there may be some changes, such as postponing Verkle until the next hard fork.
