“I was paid over $100k for two tweets,” Punk9059 tweeted. “The crazy thing is I had no idea that was going to happen.”
Pacmoon is a memecoin on the Blast network, which launched its mainnet at the end of February. The Blast network has attracted significant attention, amassing over $1.4 billion in total locked value ahead of the upcoming BLAST token airdrop at the end of June.
Memecoins are tokens based on animals, celebrities, or brands. Pacmoon uses Pac-Man inspired imagery and rewards social media engagement and community participation by giving tokens to supporters for sharing relevant content.
When displaying the tweets, Punk9059 — who works for Memeland and previously worked at Proof — said that the first tweet was about news of a free airdrop of Pacmoon (PAC) tokens to Blast shareholders, along with with his referral code, on February 28. This was a popular tweet, but the gain was even greater than expected thanks to a mistake.
“This tweet has gone viral,” said Punk9059. “People copy/paste content. And my friend [Frank DeGods] accidentally tweeted my code instead of his.”
Frank DeGods, also known as Rohun Vora, is the founder of the NFT projects DeGods and y00ts and has a significant following on Twitter. The “mistaken” referral code sharing ended up greatly benefiting Punk9059 — even though at the time, the PAC token wasn't worth much.
Punk9059 said he gave Frank $50 as a thank you after he accidentally tweeted his referral code. And that tweet, which included a photo of Frank holding a $50 bill while being hugged by Punk9059, also went viral — so he got more rewards.
He received 354,179 PAC tokens for the referral code, then another 698,137 PAC tokens for tweet views, for a total of 1,052,316 tokens — or $168,370 as of Thursday. As of this writing, that total is worth about $218,000 with the PAC up 7% in the last 24 hours.
“There were a few other tweets as well, but these two did most of the work,” Punk9059 said. “The best part? My followers also benefit if they see the tweet & subscribe.”
“We will accept that,” he added.
