Justice Timothy Kelly of the US district court has ordered the seizure of 279 crypto accounts and handed over to the US over alleged connections to North Korean crypto thefts. The ruling stems from August 2020 case filed by the US where North Korean-linked entities were transferring illicit crypto funds to exchanges outside US or to unhosted wallets under foreign conspirators’ control. In 2023 alone, North Korean hackers were responsible for $430 million in crypto losses. The cybercrime groups have skillfully evaded US and international sanctions using new laundering methods. There has been increased scrutiny over crypto and the government has cracked down on crypto mixing services.
