[Ethereum lead developer shares important information about account abstraction]

Ethereum developer Yoav Weiss recently shared the latest progress and roadmap for account abstraction in Ethereum. He introduced in detail the ERC-4337 standard, a new Ethereum blockchain standard that is mainly used to improve the functionality of smart contract wallets and thereby improve the user experience of decentralized applications (DApps).

ERC-4337 was proposed by the Ethereum team under the leadership of Vitalik Buterin to move user asset management from externally owned accounts (EOAs) to entirely controlled by smart contracts. This standard introduces a pseudo-transaction object called UserOperation, which stores user operations in a structure called an "alt mempool" until these operations are confirmed by the network.

Additionally, Weiss reviewed the development of ERC-4337, highlighting how the standard evolved from Buterin's initial concept to its current strategy focused on standardizing account abstraction on Layer 2 networks. Due to the wallet fragmentation problem caused by fragmented Layer2 solutions, ERC-4337 was proposed to provide a unified protocol-level solution.

The current roadmap includes the development of Rollup Improvement Proposals (RIPs), specifically RIP-7560, a series of proposals designed to facilitate the migration of Layer2 chains to native account abstraction. Weiss emphasized the importance of working with Layer1 developers, Layer2 developers, and the broader community to ensure that these improvements are implemented smoothly on both Layer1 and Layer2.

In addition, Buterin’s goals for revamping the Ethereum account system include supporting key rotation and deprecation, resistance to quantum attacks, batch processing, and sponsored transactions. He believes that existing EOA models have limitations in achieving these goals and emphasizes the need for a transition to smart contract accounts (SCAs).

Overall, these efforts demonstrate the Ethereum community’s continued innovation and progress in improving platform functionality and user experience.
