According to ChainCatcher, Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether and CTO of Bitfinex, posted on the X platform that the Bitfinex data leak may be a false event. The specific basis is as follows:

• The sample data contains 22,500 email and password records;

• Bitfinex does not store plain text passwords, nor does it store 2FA passwords in plain text;

• Only 5,000 of the 22,500 emails matched Bitfinex users;

• The alleged hackers did not contact Bitfinex. If they had any real information, they would have reached out through Bitfinex’s bug bounty, customer support tickets, etc.
