Today it was discovered that someone else had been a victim of what is known as "steering poisoning", which cost the victim $68 million dollars in an instant. This is a "deception" method that is claiming more and more victims, due to carelessness and not properly verifying the address of the #billetera destination. Given this, how did this event happen and how can I avoid it? Let's explore.

A few hours ago a user created a new address in his wallet, which was the following:
"0xd9A1...53a91"

Note that always when we see an address, we always observe the initial and final numbers or digits, the rest we do not take much importance due to the number of digits.

In this process the user sent 0.05 ETH as proof to his new created address, without any problem.

When all this was happening, a "scammer" or cybercriminal generated an address with the same beginning and end of the victim's address, and began sending microtransactions to the victim, so that these transactions would appear in their history (this detail is important) .

Once these actions were carried out, the victim wanted to transfer his WBTC to his new wallet. Then the user accidentally copied the address generated by the scammer thinking it was his own (because of the initial and final letters) and transferred 1,155 WBTC ($68 million dollars approx.). These #tokens arrived directly in the scammer's wallet.

On the @Arkham intelligence platform you can see this deception action in more detail. We have to compare the destination addresses of both transactions.

And thus $68 million dollars were lost. This is not something new, since in the past CZ Zhao, former CEO of #Binance , exposed this type of deception method.

So what is the solution?

Simply verify the destination address well, and copy and paste directly from the wallet or exchange. Another solution that they are proposing in networks is the use of ENS (address domain), which, as is known, there can only be a single domain linked to a wallet address.

This is a regrettable fact and is not an isolated case, since I am seeing several victims with large amounts lost. When browsing the world #cripto always be careful, because they are always inventing new methods of scams and deceptions, that with one click, our wallet can be infected.
