Robbery breaks out at Singapore cryptocurrency gathering

Just playing cards in private, how could you get robbed? This incident happened in King Albert Park in Singapore. According to Lianhe Zaobao, the local police force received a report at 2 am on April 18 that a robbery occurred in a residential unit in King Albert Park. There were at least four robbers who broke into the house with guns and weapons and robbed 11 victims who were having a party.

Rumor has it that the victims ranged in age from 25 to 45, all of them were cryptocurrency players in Singapore. They seemed to be playing Texas Hold’em in their residence when the incident happened, but they did not expect robbers to break in.

Not only steal coins, but also car keys

According to detailed information provided by the Criminal Investigation Department of Singapore, the victim was threatened with a gun and forced to transfer cryptocurrencies and various cash on the spot, including Tether ($USDT) worth $2,638,238, 211,000 Singapore dollars, 150,000 UAE dirhams, and $44,300 in cash.

In addition, the robbers did not spare any valuable items, including luxury items such as a red Richard Mille 35-02 watch worth S$320,000, a Ferrari car key worth S$400, a Rolex Daytona gold watch worth S$55,000, a Rolex GMT Master Guinness Jubilee watch worth S$55,000, a black Huawei GT4 watch worth S$400, and a black Samsung Galaxy 6 smartwatch worth S$452.

2 arrested, 2 still at large

In the subsequent investigation report, the Criminal Investigation Department and Clementi Police Station confirmed the identities of the men involved in the case. They are 28-year-old Goh Boon Tong and 32-year-old Muhammad Tauffiq Ahmad Fauzi. Both are Malaysians and had fled to Malaysia shortly after the police received the report.

After the National Court issued an arrest warrant, the Royal Malaysian Police, in cooperation with Singapore, arrested two men involved in the case in Malaysia on April 27 and 28. They were extradited back to Singapore on April 30. The whereabouts of the other two suspects are still being tracked down.

Under Singapore law, the two men will be charged under Section 395 and Section 397 of the Penal Code, which is armed robbery in a gang, and may be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison and up to 24 strokes of the cane.

As the results of further investigations have not been made public, there are still many doubts in this case. Some community members speculated that there might be a mole in the gathering or group of several people, otherwise how could the criminals easily know the location and break in, and also know that several people have cryptocurrency wallets.
