Typically, every large project would like to reward as many unique users as possible, but this has become tricky since last year.
Sybil mining has become a significant issue since the $ARB airdrop in 2023, and many projects are now taking Sybil detection more seriously than ever.
We have seen some less than successful attempts to eliminate or at least mitigate the effects of Sybil through wallet balances, KYC, passports, airdropping small tokens to everyone, etc.
However, none of these methods really worked, and instead caused more harm to the community than actual Sybil.
Tier-1 projects would prefer to eliminate 80% of addresses rather than airdrop small amounts of tokens to everyone.
So how do they narrow down the number of eligible addresses?
The most effective way is to consider L1 on-chain activity. Ethereum transactions are usually expensive and most altcoins are unwilling to perform such transactions.
In addition, active L1 users often receive airdrops for using the mainnet. For example, $PYTH, $STRK, and $SEI distributed generous airdrops to active Ethereum users.
To decrypt altcoins from an address, first get some $ETH on L1
