Polkadot Unveils Major Upgrade Plan: Relay Chain Replacement and 10M DOT Bonus Incentive

Gavin Wood, founder of the Polkadot protocol, presented a new Gray Paper documenting the upcoming connection-accumulation machine (JAM) update for the network. The announcement came during Wood's presentation on the future of Polkadot at the Token2049 crypto conference in Dubai.

Wood established the JAM Implementer's Prize, a prize fund of 10 million DOT, to encourage diverse development of the JAM protocol.

According to the announcement, the JAM update aims to replace the relay chain, which acts as the central data chain on the Polkadot network, with a “more modular and minimalistic design” that will allow Polkadot to run shared services and improve network stability.

JAM's parachain service will support existing Substrate-based parachains, allowing developers to continue to use Substrate to develop and deploy their blockchains.
