The FBI has warned that Bitcoin (BTC) ransomware called Akira has caused millions of dollars in damage to companies in North America, Europe and Australia. This malware accesses corporate infrastructure through a VPN without multi-factor authentication. Akira steals confidential data and blocks system access, after which a ransom demand appears on the screen. Hackers use Bitcoin as a payment method. 😱 As a result of the spread of this ransomware, unknown fraudsters affected more than 250 companies and seized more than $42 million. The FBI previously published a report on cryptocurrency investment fraud. According to the agency, this figure increased by 53% to $3.94 billion in 2023.
