A British man who made around $900,000 in a Twitter hack attack and SIM swapping scheme received a 5-year sentence from a federal judge on Friday, as reported by Inner City Press.
O’Connor, also known by the name, PlugWalkJoe, orchestrated a Twitter hack attack in 2020, hacking high-profile accounts on the platform (including CoinDesk) and using them to promote the #bitcoin bounty fraud scheme. He made $103,960 from the scheme.
O’Connor also pleaded guilty to his involvement in a SIM swapping attack targeting high-profile executives in the crypto industry, with theft amounting to $794,000 in digital currency.
