A Bitcoin (BTC) wallet that had been inactive for nearly 12 years suddenly transferred its entire balance of 500 BTC - worth nearly 35 million USD at current prices - to many new addresses.
This wallet initially received 500 BTC on July 14, 2012, which was then worth less than $4,000 - because the price of Bitcoin was just under $8, according to data from Lookonchain.
However, to date, the identity of the individual or entity behind this Bitcoin transaction remains unknown, and the reason for the transfer also remains ambiguous.
Yesterday's mysterious Bitcoin activity follows an even more interesting event earlier this week, when an individual or organization received a 2,000 Bitcoin mining bonus in 2010, then merged Merge them into a single wallet.
At the time of mining those blocks, the total value of these rewards was only about 600 USD. But currently, that amount is worth about $140 million, according to The Block.
